AZ Cardinal Hosting Tournament
January 25, 2009
Former Cardinal and current Phoenix resident Seth Joyner is hosting one of the most anticipated Super Bowl events in Tampa. The Par and Poker Celebrity Challenge for Charity takes place Thursday, January 29, 2009 and consists of two parts: an 18-hole golf tournament at TPC Tampa Bay and a No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker tournament at Tampa Bay Downs.
“We are very excited that our hometown team is coming to Tampa,” said Joyner. “We are looking forward to welcoming back the people who made last year’s event in Arizona such a huge success and we now have an event for our fellow Phoenicians and Cardinals Fans!”
The cost to play in the Celebrity Golf Tournament is $1,000 per person and registration is still open! The 18-hole tournament mimics a PGA Tour on the TPC Tampa Bay championship course. Spectators are encouraged to attend, as this is one of the only celebrity events open to the public and free to attend. Celebrities include NFL Greats Lawrence Taylor, Eric Dickerson, Jim McMahon, Marcus Allen, Roy Green and Fred Williamson; NBA Star Clyde Drexler; MLB Legends Bret Saberhagen, Chili Davis and Joe Carter; and Actors Alfonso Ribeiro and Grant Show.
The cost to play poker is $540 per person. Players will compete against professionals like Greg “Fossilman” Ramer, Gavin Smith and Lon McEachern to win large cash prizes and seats to the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour. The tournament is expected to be the largest celebrity poker tournament in Tampa Bay history.
The event benefits the Joyner-Walker Foundation, a Phoenix-based charity dedicated to providing life skill programs to assist high school and college students in a way to prosper and be self sufficient.
