thatspoker Review: Thats Poker, Phoenix AZThat’s Poker is a card room located on 14th Street and Bell Rd in North Phoenix.  Approximately 7 minutes from Rt 51 and Bell Road.  This review is a summary of my visit to That’s Poker and you as our readers can take our information as use it for your own benefit.

When looking at card rooms in Arizona, you look for certain things.  One of those might be professionalism, another might be good games, and yet another might be frequent tournaments.  Just because a place is busy does not mean that is the best, because in our travels, we’ve seen many rooms be busy, but when the night ends, it’s poorly run.

That’s Poker does not fall in that category…

After my first visit to That’s Poker, I was genuinely impressed with the level of professionalism and courtesy the staff presented.  Even when games were not going on, people who were waiting were kept engaged by conversation, side games, and some of the other items present (ping pong and pool).

That’s Poker has the feel of a Social Club from back in the day, where a person could hang out, get some cards in, and have a good time.  But be real, when the games are going, there is cash on the table and the play can be tough.  Player skill levels vary at That’s Poekr with a good blend of good players, weak players, and players who think they are far better than they really are.  This leads for a balanced blend that anyone could walk in and hop into a game.  If every player was professional, it’d be a shark pit for the average person.

Tournaments happen during the week, with cash games after.  You can get on their cell phone text list and receive text messages as games start, tournaments start, or as seats open.  It’s both a nice conveinance to have, and they are quick to respond to questions.

On the negative side, the only thing is that games dont go on all the time.  Once a game gets going, it goes for hours and hours, but getting the bodies in is *sometimes* slow, but that’s the same all over.  The game of choice seems to be 1/2 NL and usual buy in is between $100 and $200.  Other games go from timet to time but if there’s enough interest, they’ll spread just about anything.

The store has a safe area for chips and money so you do feel secure as a patron and that’s probably the most important thing going.  Also with the bar next door spreading Pub Poker on Thursdays (via Nationwide Poker Tour), it makes for a great stop after playing free poker at the bar league.

That’s Poker is on 14th St and Bell Rd on the North side of the road in the same plaza as AM/PM.
