Recently the American Cancer Society Relay for Life got to see the charitable side of poker players as more than 140 went “all in” to help support the organization. These were poker players taking part in the charity poker tourney that occurred at the Berkshire Hills Country Club, and $5,000 was raised. Online Poker Site Cleared of Charges

Last year Swedish authorities shut down a live poker tournament, claiming it was illegal. The 2007 European Poker Challenge (EPC) was raided on the first day of play and six organizers were charged with running and advertising an illegal poker tournament. Just recently the District Court in Uddevalla cleared two of the charged, while two others got fines and the last two will get jail time of six and eight months…
Sheriff Poker Problems

The southern state of North Carolina has had a long, rough relationship with video poker, and recent testimony seems to indict the Sheriff of Haywood County in a bribery operation to allow illegal video poker to operate. Jerry Pennington, a Henderson Amusement Inc employee, has testified that Haywood County Sheriff Tom Alexander took thousands of dollars every month to not bust the company running the poker games. The testimony came during the trial of former Buncombe County Sheriff Bobby Medford, who also is accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars in poker related criminal bribes.

Darfur Charity Poker Tournaments Continue

At the last two World Series of Poker events a special tournament has been held to raise money for the problems in Darfur, Africa, and yet another tournament is going to be held soon. This time the host is not the WSOP but the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino, which is joining forces with the celebrity backed charity organization Not On Our Watch, founded by stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jerry Weintraub, Matt Damon, and Don Cheadle, who is the most vocal in supporting Darfur. Annie Duke is also an instrumental part of the tournaments for Darfur.
